Great article. I know someone, who when she was a teenager, suffered a lot from menstrual cramps. Her cat would automatically come and lie on her lap. She said the cat removed the cramps. Now I suspect the cat was purring.

When I was going through cancer treatment my cat, who wasn't overly affectionate generally, would come and lie next to me and I somehow felt it helped me.

I laughed at the "I was normal three cats ago." I have a friend with 10 cats. She always said she was going to end up a mad cat lady.

I just saw this very charming cat and grandma video today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXRYNEGod-o

purrposeful, but an artificially generated purr wouldn’t work the same… needs to be part of the whole kitty package 📦

In the middle of reading your essay, I collected my kitten and held her while she purred loudly, and I finished my morning read. I did not know this about purring. I currently have 3 foster kittens ( that I may end up keeping) , an indoor senior girl and my indoor/ outdoor barn hunter who prefers to stay close but not cuddled. The kittens give me joy watching them frolic and play. One was on deaths doorstep when I got him but is doing good now.

I'm glad to hear your furry friend is doing well now. They truly are a blessing! It's tough not to want to keep them all.
