Worked early in my career as a National Park LE/Resource Management Ranger. Two homes were always a bit strange and I'd get alarms going off and no one found inside. One was the Alcott House The Wayside in Concord, Massachusetts (No one seemed to know much about the history of the home, though Henry David Thoreau told the story that one of its previous owners believed he would never die and his ghost was rumored to haunt it)
and the other was the Mastic home at the William Floyd Estate. Both homes would have silent alarms go off and I'd have to security check both inside and out.
back in the 1960’s our family visited the Oregon Caves and my sister (who was a toddler) refused to go in, clinging to my dad’s leg. my dad and I talked about this a few years ago shortly before his death, he never forgot how horrified she was like she had seen a monster. I looked into it and found that there is an underground river in the Oregon Caves, the only one in the US, the River Styx… was there a portal down there?
It is REALLY creepy there!!!!! Kids seem to have a sixth sense with things like that. I think most of us lose it as we age unfortunately. I am sorry to hear about your dad passing. Very interesting name for a river!!!!!!!! Did you guys ever make it to the Vortex house in Oregon? https://www.oregonencyclopedia.org/articles/oregon_vortex_house_of_mystery_/
That whole area definitely has a "vibe" to it. Especially the back country near the Redwoods. I often felt like I was being watched when I hiked alone. Probably not very smart to go alone. Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico is pretty creepy and jaw dropping too...but I think that was more seeing the gigantic rocks that looked like they were going to fall at any moment. I never realized how many cave systems we have in the U.S. or how many are connected.
Quite the creepy stuff! I spent lots of time with My family when I was growing up in national parks. Learned years later of the creepy stuff. Thanks for refreshing My memory of what I learned.
