One more brief comment: Some alternative docs recommend thermography for breast cancer screening instead of xrays.

There are other options, like MRIs instead of xrays for other diagnoses. However the contrast medium they use is not safe. Do the sound waves cause problems? I don't know that, but wonder about it. Sonograms, I think they are bad for the developing fetus where they take pictures using sound.

Stuff that seems perfectly harmless but isn't.

Wow! You have done extensive research here, impressive.

Many cases of hypothyroidism are never diagnosed as Hashimotos. This is because the protocol is not to test for it. Why? Ans: Because the doctors say it doesn't matter, you still need to take thyroid hormones, usually levothyroxine or its generic equivalent. Even my alternative doc wasn't going to test for it, until I politely insisted. I suspect this is because he already orders tests that are out of the ordinary and may not want to ruffle feathers. He's a good doctor but still these protocols affect how he practices.

Apparently, Hashimoto's can be reversed and various people are doing this, particularly with alternative approaches.

The other element (pun intended) is that most people are deficient in iodine, either a little or a lot. This by itself will impact the thyroid. The only doctors I've heard of who will recommend supplemental iodine are the alternative folks. Some overdo it, IMO. People can find them on youtube and similar.

This led me to wonder if the radioactive iodine tests were worst in places where iodine levels are already low. Plus many people keep a form of iodine for emergency use if there is a nuclear accident. This is supposed to keep the thyroid from absorbing the bad stuff. (I think it's potassium iodide.). It's not recommended to take it except in an emergency. Long post, but it's something I've paid attention to for years.

None of this is medical advice. My only "medical advice" is to find an excellent alternative doc. This is not easy, but staying away from other docs is important.

Edited to add: The potassium iodide in tablets for nuclear emergencies is also the same form of iodine people take orally if they are deficient. I think it's the amount that varies.
